I am a painter and architect based in Brussels. My practice unfolds across a multiplicity of supports: exterior walls, façades, construction materials, as well as paper, canvas, and found objects.
My research is grounded in a methodology of observation and surveying. Wandering — both visual and physical — is my point of departure. I observe, collect, and record: photographs, drawings, diagrams, descriptive texts, herbariums — then I archive. My research notebooks become the fragmented anatomy of my personal memories.
From this material emerges a personal language: a poetry of interstices and spaces, where constrained bodies slip into place, as does the light of a sunset.
My practice unfolds from this in-between space — between collection and memory — both in the intimacy of the studio and on the walls of the city. I strive to maintain this balance: creating forms accessible to all through mural painting, while pursuing a rigorous studio practice and artistic research.
My work thus exists in dual presence: in the street and in galleries.
I regularly collaborate with other artists, notably within the artist-run space and cooperative Les Iles Mardi, which I co-founded.
Painting is a game with abstract rules, where instinct, poetry, and technique intertwine.
The balance of light and shadow.
The color of emotions.
I hope you enjoy discovering my work.
Love and respect,
Charles
